In 2011, Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) started its institutional accreditation process with WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), one of the most prestigious American regional accreditation agencies, which has guaranteed the academic quality of the best universities in the world.
After an arduous assessment process, in 2016, UPC became the first and only Peruvian university institutionally accredited at the highest level by WASC, an accreditation agency officially recognized by the Department of Education of the United States.
Internationally, the leadership of the American regional accreditation system is categorical. According to the 2017 Academic Ranking of World Universities by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, out of the 50 best universities in the world, 29 are American. WASC has recognized the academic quality and excellence of 7 of these American universities, among them, Standford University, UC Berkeley, and the California Institute of Technology (CALTECH), which stand out among the 10 best worldwide.
To assess and determine the quality of a university, WASC considers important factors such as: coherence between the mission, the educational model demands, a self-assessement and continuous improvement culture and, finally, the results of the process accounted for by employability rates and alumni’s recognition in the market.
This international accreditation represents a valuable contribution to the Peruvian higher education system, and reaffirms the strong commitment UPC has to the country’s development and transformation.
